I’ve always felt that one of the greatest accessories a girl can wear are vibrant and fun nails. At Polished we have an obsession with all things nail art. So much so that we even have a section dedicated to nail art tutorials. To get you ready for Spring 2014, we’ve rounded up 11 nail art trends that were spotted all over the Spring/Summer 2014 runways – from abstract art to the french manicure revival – here are the trends we are excited to try out.
1. Minimal geometry
Tracy Reese was overflowing with minimal grids and lines. To get this look, apply a base coat, then your color. When it dries take a nail art striping tool and draw a grid. You only need about two lines horizontally and two lines vertically to get this look.
2. Retro / noir patterns
These mod designs seen at The Blonds are easiest to draw with nail art pens. Or if that’s not your strongest suit, hunt down a nail artist!
3. Metallic
The popular metallic look from 2013 is still going strong. This model at Phillip Lim wears a simple bronze metal.
4. Artsy nail art
Playful designs were all over the runway from Libertine, to Kenzo and Rebecca Minkoff (featured). We love this flowery skull look inspired by Frida Khalo.
5. Pastels
Easter-egg hunting isn’t just for the kids anymore – from seafoam to lilac these pastels are perfect for spring. (Seen at NoNoo)
6. Matte + glossy hybrid
This fierce look at Nicholas K is a fun update to the simple black nail – just buy a matte color for the base coat and a glossy version for the french tip. To get a clean line, apply a strip of scotch tape once the base has dried to form the tip.
7. Silver / chrome-tipped
Probably one of my favorites, this double chrome tip at Kate Spade is a great way to make the stiletto nail more girly.
8. Half moon floating nail art
The ubiquitous floating half moon was everywhere, and we kinda dig it. This model at Milly wears a pure simple white crescent moon.
9. French mani revival
Holmes & Yang showed off a slanted french tip while this model at Marc Jacobs rocks an embellished french tip featuring rhinestones.
10. Embellished white
Cushnie et Ochs featured a simple white stiletto nail with a metallic accent – a glam way to dress up the look.
11. Subtle ombre
Ombre isn’t just for hair! This model at Zac Posen wears a dusty rose ombre nail. An easy way to do this is to apply your color, then using a makeup sponge pat the second color down on the upper part of your nail.
Which one is your favorite? We’d love to hear from you!
