Hello! First of all, I would like to thank LFL for letting me take up some of her precious website space. <3
Today I have some details about my favorite things to use for nail art. While you may think that nail art can be an expensive hobby, it really isn’t (unless you count trying to get your paws on ALL the indie polishes an expensive habit…). Ha.
First up is the ever so popular dotting tool. If you do not have one, don’t worry about it. I started off using bobby pins and toothpicks! They work just the same.
Here’s a tip: if your bobby pin is too small, dip it in polish a few times, letting the end get bigger with dry polish.

The things you can do with a dotting tool are endless. You don’t just have to do dots! I use mine for leopard print ALL the time. You can use it to make shapes (like for a robot or animal) and for stripes or waves and more.
My next favorite tool(s) are brushes!
You don’t have to splurge on them. I got a set for less than $9 from MASH. Let me tell you, I LOOOOVE the two angled brushes that came with the kit. They are perfect for cleaning up the cuticle area. PEOPLE. Clean up your cuticles. Nail polish on your skin is cringe-worthy to the nail community.
Striping brushes are great for making straight lines, as well as “dry” marbling.
Random things around the house can be used for some cool effects. Here is one mani I did using a piece of tissue! Just dab it on top of a wet polish layer. You can also do this with saran wrap.
Makeup sponges are great for gradients and sponging on different colors. Here is my galaxy mani that I did with the help of makeup sponges.
Ok, I’m probably boring you, but my last thing to use is acrylic paint. You can buy non-toxic paint for less than 99 cents in most stores! They make doing silhouettes, accents and designs a lot easier in some cases. Here, I used black acrylic paint for the rose silhouette (and I used a striping brush for the stripes).
I’m not fancy, but I love to try out new things!
Thank you LFL! You rock, and so does your blog. <3 Demi at VLB
